Product Description Overhead lines, sometimes referred to as aerial conductors, are often specified where there are significant distances to cover and where these cables are best positioned far out of reach. The distances to cover, the environmental conditions it will face, and the location are all factors in specifying the appropriate cable.
The main classifications of bare conductor are AAC (All aluminum conductor), AAAC (All aluminum Alloy Conductor) or ACSR (aluminum conductor steel reinforced). AAC is most commonly found in urban areas with frequent supports and short spans. It is also used in coastal regions where salt in the air can cause corrosion - the all-aluminum wire providing corrosion resistance - and specified for use in the railway industry for OHL electrification. AAAC tend to be specified where greater mechanical resistance is required and where there is a reduced sag characteristic. The ACSR, with its steel reinforcement provides additional strength and where the spans run for larger distances, such as across rivers.
The advantages of AAC, AAAC and ACSR come in their lightweight properties. These overhead lines have no specified voltage rating - it will depend on the type of installation - although the higher corona limit of ACSR makes it beneficial when used with high voltage and extra-high voltage transmission. The overhead line wires are manufactured in accordance with various national standards and can be sized appropriately - including GB/T1179 ASTM B231, ASTM B399, IEC 61089, DIN 48201, BS 215, BS 3242, BS EN 50182 and Spanish standard UNE 21.018. etc.

1. Aplication
ACSR conductors are widely used for electrical power transmission over long distances, since they are ideal for long overhead lines spans. They are also used as a messenger for supporting overhead electrical cables.
2. Structure And Reference Picture
ACSR conduc tors are formed by several wires of aluminum and galvanized steel, stranded in concentric layers. The wire or wires which form the core, are made of galvanized steel and the external layer or layers, are of aluminum. Galvanized steel core consists normally of 1, 7 or 19 wires. The diameters of steel and aluminum wires can be the same, or different.
By varying the relative proportions of aluminum and steel, the required characteristics for any particular application can be reached. A higher U. T. S. Can be obtained, by increasing steel content, and a higher current carrying capacity by increasing aluminum content.
In ACSR Conductor outer layer consist of aluminum strands.
