Description: The element symbol for ytterbium is Yb. Atomic weight: 173.04(3). Melting point: 824°C. Boiling point: 1427°C. Relative density: 6.977 (α-type). Ytterbium is a silver-white metal, known for its ductility and softness.
Ytterbium exists in two crystal structures: α-type is a face-centered cubic crystal system (room temperature - 798°C); β-type is a body-centered cubic lattice (above 798°C). It is insoluble in cold water but soluble in acid and liquid ammonia.
Application:Ytterbium is utilized as a laser material, in portable X-ray sources, and as a critical sensitizer for luminescent materials. It plays a pivotal role in medical diagnostics, OLED display materials, and more.
