It is mainly used to separate multiphase mixtures (usually gas-liquid mixtures or liquid-liquid mixtures) under high pressure. Based on the differences in physical properties such as density and solubility of each component in the mixture, each phase of substances is separated and led out respectively, so as to achieve the purposes of recovery, purification or further processing in the subsequent steps.
Working Principle
1. Gravity Settling Principle: Under high-pressure conditions, taking advantage of the different densities of each phase in the mixture, the heavier liquid phase settles to the bottom of the separator under the action of gravity, while the lighter gas phase accumulates at the top. For example, in the petroleum refining process, when the mixture of crude oil and natural gas enters the high-pressure separator, the crude oil, with a relatively high density, will gather at the bottom, and the natural gas will rise to the top. 2. Centrifugal Force Separation Principle: For some gas-liquid mixtures containing tiny droplets, by making the mixture rotate at a high speed inside the separator, centrifugal force is generated. Under the action of the centrifugal force, the droplets are thrown towards the wall of the separator and converge into a liquid flow, while the gas remains in the central area, thus realizing separation
