Introduction: Potassium formate is a colorless transparent liquid or white solid, easy to absorb moisture, with reducibility, can react with strong oxidants, density of 1.9100g/cm3, soluble in water, saturated solution specific gravity of 1.58g/cm3, non-toxic and non-corrosive. Heating carbon-monoxide with potassium-hydroxide yields potassium formate, which is further acidified and distilled.Application: it is mainly used to prepare water-bearing oil well filling fluid. Since the end of 1990s, potassium formate has been applied to drilling and completion fluid, especially in high-density drilling and completion fluid system, and good results have been achieved. Potassium formate drilling fluid system has strong inhibition, good compatibility, environmental protection, reservoir protection and other outstanding advantages.
