Re: Polyoxymethylene (POM) Rod
POM plastic particles are extruded by an extruder at high temperature, and then extruded through the corresponding die mouth to obtain rods of different diameter. It is a kind of thermoplastic engineering plastic with high hardness and high crystallinity. Because of the good characteristics, it is very suitable for machining on automatic lathe, especially for manufacturing precision parts.
1. Features: *Physical properties: polyoxymethylene is a hard and dense material with smooth surface and luster, light yellow or white, high crystallinity, good colourability, well proportioned size, and very small water absorption.
*Mechanical properties: polyoxymethylene has high hardness and steel property, high resistance to creep and stress relaxation, excellent wear resistance, self lubrication, and fatigue, which are incomparable with other engineering plastics.
*Thermal performance: polyoxymethylene has a high thermal deformation temperature and can be used for a long time in the temperature range of - 40 ºC - 104 ºC.
*Electrical performance: its dielectric loss and dielectric constant change little in a wide range of frequencies and temperatures, and maintain good arc resistance.
*Chemical properties: polyoxymethylene has good solvent resistance, oil resistance, weak acid resistance, weak base resistance and other properties.
2. Applications: POM rods are widely used to manufacture various sliding rotating machinery, precision parts, gears, bearings, etc. The use industry covers automobile, electronics, clothing, medical, machinery, sports equipment and other fields.
3. Types: POM-C/H (black and white) represents POM copolymer (POM-C) and POM homopolymer (POM-H) respectively. POM copolymer has low melting point, thermal stability, chemical corrosion resistance, flow characteristics, hydrolysis resistance, strong alkali resistance and thermal oxidation degradation, and its processability is better than homoformaldehyde. POM homopolymer has higher crystallinity, creep resistance, lower thermal expansion rate, and wear resistance, mechanical strength, rigidity & thermal deformation temperature better than copolymer formaldehyde. (At present, POM-C is widely used for POM semi-finished products on the market.)
