Usage:
Used as a raw material for making packaging materials such as bottles and containers for packaging a wide range of food products and other consumer goods. Examples include soft drinks, detergents, cosmetics, pharmaceutical products and edible oils. It is one of the most common consumer plastics used. Polyethylene terephthalate also can be used as main material in making paper.
It is an excellent barrier material, plastic bottles made from PET are widely used for soft drinks (seecarbonation). For certain specialty bottles, PET sandwiches an additional polyvinyl alcohol layer to further reduce its oxygen permeability.
Non-oriented PET sheet can be thermoformed to make packaging trays and blisters. If crystallizable PET is used, the trays can be used for frozen dinners, since they withstand both freezing and oven baking temperatures.
